GUWAHATI, Nov 28: The Amri Karbi Students’ Union appears euphoric about the recent peace accord signed between the Centre and the United Peoples Democratic Solidarity (UPDS).
In a press meet in Guwahati today, Amri Karbi Students’ Union president Hareshwar Rahang said, “We welcome the peace accord signed between the Centre and the UPDS. As per the accord, a 50-member Karbi Anglong Autonomous Territorial Council (KAATC) will be formed in place of the existing Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC). Just as the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) looks after the welfare of Bodo people living outside the BTC area, we expect the KAATC to look after the welfare of Karbi people living not just in the hills of Karbi Anglong but also in the plains. Like the Karbi people, even the Amri Karbi people are happy that such a peace accord has been signed and we hope that there will be no political conspiracy to exclude Amri Karbis from the developmental schemes undertaken by the KAATC. There should now be development of the Karbi population and the Amri Karbis should not be deprived of any welfare schemes
